At the Grandparents

Two young boys were spending the night at their grandparents. At
bedtime, the two boys knelt beside their beds to say their prayers when
the youngest one began praying at the top of his lungs. “I PRAY FOR A
NEW BICYCLE… I PRAY FOR A NEW PLAYSTATION… I PRAY FOR A NEW VCR…”
I PRAY FOR A NEW IPOD…

His older brother leaned over and nudged the younger brother and said,
“Why are you shouting your prayers? God isn’t deaf.”

To which the little brother replied, “No, but Gramma is!”

การใช้ Neither-Nor (ไม่ทั้งสอง) และ Either-Or (อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง / ถ้าไม่…ก็….)

1.    ประธานเอกพจน์ 2 ตัว เชื่อมด้วย Neither Nor หรือ Either Or ต้องตามด้วย verb เอกพจน์

e.g.    Neither John nor Jack is available  - John กับ Jack ไม่ว่างด้วยกันทั้งสองคน

Either you and I drives her to school – ไม่เธอก็ฉันที่จะขับรถพาเธอไปโรงเรียน

Note! [ถ้ามีการใช้ I ให้ไว้ในตำแหน่งที่สอง]

2.    ประธานเอกพจน์ กับ ประธานพหูพจน์ เชื่อมด้วย Neither Nor หรือ Either Or ให้ไว้ ประธานพหูพจน์ ข้างหลัง และตามด้วย Verb พหูพจน์

e.g.    Neither John nor the others are busy. – John กับคนอื่นๆ ไม่มีใครยุ่งเลย

Either she or her students are not happy about the new rule. – ไม่เธอก็ นักเรียนของเธอไม่พอใจกับกฏระเบียบใหม่นี้

3.    เมื่อไหร่ก็ตามที่ Neither-Nor หรือ Either-Or ทำหน้าที่เป็น ประธาน จะใช้ Verb เอกพจน์ เสมอๆๆ

e.g.    Neither of them is working right now. – ตอนนี้ไม่มีใครกำลังทำงาน

Either of us is capable of helping you. – ใครคนใดคนหนึ่งสามารถช่วยคุณได้
