“My friend” or  “a friend of mine”

หลายๆ อาจจะเคยพูดหรือเคยได้ยินประโยคนี้นะ  She is a friend of mine. หรือ Is he a friend of yours? แล้วมันต่างกับ She is my friend หรือ Is he your friend? ยังไง

จริงๆ แล้วก็ไม่ต่างกันมาก

คำว่า mine ก็แทนถึง my friends, yours ก็แทนถึง your friends

She is a friend of mine. = She is a friend of [my friends]. เธอเป็นหนึงในเพื่อนหลายๆ คนของฉัน

Is he a friend of yours? = Is he a friend of [your friend]? เขาเป็นหนึงในเพื่อนหลายๆ คนของคุณหรอ?

สรุปคือว่า She is my friend. ก็เหมือนกับ she is a friend of mine. แต่ she is a friend of mine แค่จะบอกว่า ฉันมีเพื่อนหลายคน ไม่ใช่มีเธอเป็นเพื่อนเพียงคนเดียว

ลองดูตัวอย่างอื่นๆ นะ

She is not a friend of his. = เธอไม่ได้เป็นเพื่อนของเขา (his มาจาก his friends)

He is not a friend of hers. = เขาไม่ได้เป็นเพื่อนของเธอ (hers มาจาก her friends)

I met another girlfriend of John’s yesterday. (John มีแฟนหลายคน)
