การใช้ A number of และ the number of

A number of ตามด้วยกริยา พหูพจน์
e.g.      A number of people have gone to Siam Paragon
A number of people are waiting for the bus

The number of ตามด้วยกริยา เอกพจน์
e.g.      The number of people here has increased since this morning.

เป็น verb ที่ใช้เพื่อแสดงความรับผิดชอบต่อสิ่งที่เราทำ แต่เราไม่ได้เป็นคนกระทำ

มี 3 รูปแบบดังนี้

1.  Subject + Have/Make/Let + Person + V1

e.g.

  • I let John clean up the mess. (ฉันจะปล่อยให้ John จัดการปัญหาที่เกิด)
  • I had Jim send an email out. (ฉันจะให้ Jim ส่งอีเมล์ออกไป)
  • Peter made her do her homework. (Peter เป็นคนทำให้เธอทำการบ้าน)
  • I will not let my employees work overtime. (ฉันจะไม่ยอมให้ ลูกน้องของฉันทำงานล่วงเวลา)

* Have/Make/Let จะเป็น tense อะไรก็ได้

2.  Subject + Have/Make/Let + Object + V3

(คล้ายประโยค Passive ที่ไม่ระบุผู้กระทำ)

e.g.

  • I had my hair cut last week. (ฉันไปให้ใครบางคนตัดผมให้สัปดาห์ที่แล้ว)
  • She had the car washed at the weekend. (เธอเอารถไปล้างในวันหยุดที่ผ่านมา แต่ไม่ได้ระบุว่าล้างโดยใคร)
  • We had our door fixed. (ประตูได้ถูกซ่อมแล้วโดยใครบางคน)
  • She had her table cleaned. (โต๊ะของเธอถูกทำความสะอาดแล้ว ไม่ได้ระบุผู้กระทำ)

* Have/Make/Let จะเป็น tense อะไรก็ได้

3.  Subject + Get/Want/Order/Cause/Ask,…+ Person + to + V1

e.g.

  • I ordered everyone to leave the room yesterday. (ฉันสั่งให้ทุกคนออกจากห้องเมื่อวานนี้)
  • The traffic always causes me to come to work late. (การจราจรเป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้ฉันมาสายอยู่เสมอๆ)
  • They wanted me to help you. (พวกเขาต้องการให้ฉันช่วยคุณ)

** หลักการจำ จำแค่ ข้อ 1 และ 2 ก็พอ เพราะว่า มีแค่ 3 ตัวนี้ – Have/Make/Let
