A slip of the tongue = หลุดปาก/พลั้งปาก
- e.g. I did not mean to say that. It was just a slip of the tongue.
Call it off = เลื่อนออกไป
- e.g. She would go out with me tonight, but she called it off.
A piece of cake = ง่ายมากๆ
Never late than never = มาช้าดีกว่าไม่มา/ ทำบางอย่างสำเร็จช้า ดีกว่าไม่สำเร็จ
Call it a day = หยุดทำบางสิ่งบางอย่าง (อาจจะเป็นที่เหลือของวัน หรือ ช่วงเวลา่หนึ่งๆ)
- e.g. let’s call it a day. (เลิกทำงาน กันเถอะ)
Do someone good = ส่งผลดีต่อ
- e.g. This healthy food will do her good.
Knock your socks off = amaze and surprise you [น่าทึ่งและประหลาดใจมาก]
- e.g. The Oprah Winfrey Show wants you to meet a woman who will knock your socks off.
A bad workman always blames his tools = รำไม่ดีโทษปี่โทษกลอง
It’s raining cats and dogs here = ฝนตกหนักมาก
get the hang of = เรียนรู้ที่จะจัดการกับบางสิ่งบางอย่าง)
- e.g. I will never get the hang of that violin.
get/let somebody off the hook = ปล่อยให้เป็นอิสระ (จากดปัญหาที่ยุ่งยาก, การตัดสินใจ หรือความรับผิดชอบ)
- e.g. For this issue, please get me off the hook
under fire = กำลังโดนโจมตี หรือ ถูกวิพากษ์วิจารณ์

To shrug off = อาการยกไหล่ขึ้น อารมณ์ประมาณ ไม่สนใจ หรือ ดูถูก
- e.g. She shrugged off when she heard the criticism.
Cross the fingers = อวยพรให้เกิดแต่สิ่งดีๆ
- e.g. Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best.
- e.g. Good luck on your test tomorrow. We’ll be crossing our fingers for you.
Get over it = ฟื้นสภาพ หรือ ลืมๆ มันไปซะ
- e.g. I was very sick yesterday, but I have gotten over it.
- e.g. We broke up last week, but I have already gotten over it.
Haste makes waste = ยิ่งรีบยิ่งเสีย
Keep an eye on = คอยเฝ้าดู
Get off on the wrong foot = เริ่มต้นสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใดอย่างไม่ค่อยดี
Out of the blue = ทันทีทันใด (แบบไม่ได้ตั้งตัว)
- e.g. Why did she do that? I have no idea. It was completely out of the blue.
Pulling your leg = ล้อเล่น แหย่ โกหกสนุก
- e.g. I think he was just pulling your leg.
Start from scratch = เริ่มจากศูนย์
