D	Meaning in Thai	Example
Dark Horse	ม้ามืด	you are a dark horse
Dead man walking	คนที่มีปัญหาอย่างหนัก	He is a dead man walking
Dead right	ถูกต้องอย่างแน่นอน	It is dead right
Dead wrong	ผิดอย่างแน่นอน	It is dead wrong
Devil’s advocate	ฝ่ายโต้แย้งสมมุติ	Are you playing devil’s advocate in an argument?
Dip your toes in the water	ลองเสี่ยงดู	If you dip your toes in the water, you try something that you are not sure it will work
Dirty dog	คนหลอกลวง	He is such a dirty dog
Do a runner	ชิ่งหนี, เผ่น	I will do a runner after we finish eating
Do as you would be done by	ทำดีกับคนอื่นก่อนถ้า หวังจะให้เค้าดีกับเรา	you should do as you would be done by
Do the running	ดูแลจัดการให้สมบูรณ์	I have been assigned to do the running for this project
Do their dirty work	ทำงานที่น่าเบื่อหน่าย	I don’t want to do his dirty work
Dog eat dog	ชิงดีชิงเด่น	In a dog eat dog world
E	Meaning in Thai	Example
Easy peasy	ง่ายมากๆ	very easy
Eat like a pig	กินมาก	eat too much
Easier said than done	พูดง่ายกว่าทำ	It is easier said than done. Do not say that.
Eat your words	ยอมรับว่าผิด	I am eating my words
Egg on your face	ถูกประนาม	If someone has egg on their face, they are made to look foolish or embarrassed.
Every man for himself	ตัวใครตัวมัน	Every man for himself. I can’t help you.
F	Meaning in Thai	Example
Fall from grace	ผิดหวังกับคนคนนึง	I just fall from grace from her
Fall on our feet	ประสบความสำเร็จจาก ที่ที่คาดว่าจะเป็นไปไม่ได้	If you fall on your feet, you succeed in doing something where there was a risk of failure.
Fat cat	พวกใหญ่ๆ โตๆ	look at those fat cats
Fat head	คนโง่	you are a fat head
Feel at home	รู้สึกสะดวกสบาย	I am feeling at home.
feel free	ตามสบาย	Please feel free to call me at any times
Feeling blue	รู้สึกเศร้า	Are you feeling blue?
Feet on the ground	อยู่กับโลกความเป็นจริง	She has her feet on the ground.
Fighting chance	ความสำเร็จที่น่าจะเป็น ไปได้	you have a fighting chance this time
Find your feet	ได้ความมั่นใจ	you are finding your feet
Fine tuning	ปรับเปลี่ยนเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ในการพัฒนาบางอย่าง	let me fine tuning first
Fingers and thumbs	งุ่มง่าม	If you are all fingers and thumbs, you are being clumsy and not very skilled with your hands.
First come, first served	มาก่อนได้ก่อน	This restaurant has a first com, first served system
Fishy	มีร่องรอยที่น่าสงสัย	It looks fishy
Flat out	มากเต็มกำลัง	If you work flat out, you work as hard and fast as you possibly can.
For the time being	ชั่วคราวในอนาคต	I’m sharing an office for the time being.
Four-square behind	การสนับสนุนอย่างเต็มที่	If someone stands four-square behind someone, they give that person their full support.
From a different angle	จากมุมมองที่หลากหลาย	If you look at something from a different angle, you look at it from a different point of view.
From missouri	จากที่ที่ไม่เชื่อใครง่ายๆ	(USA) If someone is from Missouri, then they require clear proof before they will believe something.
From scratch	เริ่มจากศูนย์	She started her business from scratch
From the bottom of your heart	จากก้นบึ้งของหัวใจ	I know that from the bottom of my heart
Full throttle	เต็มกำลัง	you have to flight them full throttle

A	Meaning in Thai	Example
about to	กำลังจะ	Peggy is about to leave.
in advance	ล่วงหน้า	We booked the tickets in advance.
all over the place	ทั่วไปหมด	There are environmental problems all over the place.
B	Meaning in Thai	Example
bloody	สุดๆๆ	What a bloody day!
to be blue	อารมณ์เศร้า	She’s been feeling blue all day.
be broke	ไม่มีเงิน	I can’t go to the cinema with you, I’m broke.
to brush up on sb.	ขัดเกลา	I have to brush up on my Spanish.
buck	= Dollar	You can buy a DVD player for less than 100 bucks (dollars).
C	Meaning in Thai	Example
to catch something	จับได้ทัน	Sorry, I didn’t quite catch your telephone number.
to catch cold	เป็นหวัด	I walked out in the rain, so I caught cold.
not to have a clue	ไม่มีร่องรอย	I don’t have a clue about repairing the faucet.
Couch Potato	lazy	He is a couch potato person.
Come off it!	เลิกซะทีเถอะ	Come off it! This isn’t the truth.
as far as I’m concerned	เท่าที่ฉันรู้	As far as I’m concerned, I’d like to watch the film.
cop	= Police	A big crowd of cops gathered in front of the Bank of England.
D	Meaning in Thai	Example
to do one’s best	ทำให้ดีที่สุด	He always does his best.
to do someone good	ส่งผลดีกับ	Let’s go on a holiday. The sun will do us good.
down under	= Australia	Down under will be my next destination.
F	Meaning in Thai	Example
fair enough	เข้าใจแล้ว, alright	Fair enough! Let’s go out for dinner tonight.
to keep my fingers crossed	หวังสิ่งดีๆ ที่เกิดขึ้น, hope for a positive outcome	I have to see the doctor for a checkup. – I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
folk	people	We all are fond of the Irish folk.
for free	สำหรับฟรี	I was lucky. I got this CD for free.
freak out	ตกใจมากๆ	Ron freaked out when he heard that Peter had broken his car.
fridge	= refrigerator	Butter must be kept in the fridge.
G	Meaning in Thai	Example
to get cold feet	กลัว	He wanted to speak to the boss, but he didn’t. He got cold feet.
to get fed up with sb.	เบื่อหนาย	They get fed up with their neighbour’s parties.
to get rid of sb.	กำจัด	We have to get rid of that old car.
to take sth. for granted	สมมุติ, เดาว่า	I took it for granted the meeting was on Tuesday.
come to the conclusion	ด่วนสรุป	I am sorry that I come to the conclusion.
guy	a person	Jennifer fell in love with the guy from the supermarket.
H	Meaning in Thai	Example
had better	น่าจะ…ดีกว่า	You’d better go now.
have an affair	มีเรื่องชู้สาว	Are you having an affair with somebody else?
have a crush on	ตกหลุมรัก	I have a crush on you
on the other hand	ในทางตรงกันข้าม	Sue likes pop music, on the other hand she doesn’t like discos.
to give a hand	ขอแรงหน่อย	Can you give me a hand with the cupboard?
by heart	ทำด้วยใจ	My brother has to learn the poem by heart.
to hold s.o.’s horses	be patient, อดทนหน่อย	Hold your horses,” I said when John began to leave the room.
K	Meaning in Thai	Example
to keep an eye on sth./sb.	คอยสอดส่อง	Will you keep an eye on my baby?
L	Meaning in Thai	Example
little by little	ทีละเล็กทีละน้อย	Andrew had an accident while playing ice-hockey. Little by little he begins to walk.
to look forward to sb.	ตั้งตารอคอย	I look forward to my holidays in Rome.
M	Meaning in Thai	Example
to make oneself at home	ทำตัวตามสบาย	Come in, please. Make yourself at home.
to make the most	ทำให้มากที่สุด	Let’s make the most of the last day of our holidays.
to make up one’s mind up	ตัดสินใจ, make a decision	Did you make your mind up to buy a new computer?
What’s the matter?	เกิดอะไรขึ้น	You look sad. What’s the matter with you?
to be mean	โหดร้าย	Grandfather is mean with money.
to meet sb. halfway	พบกันครึ่งทาง	I don’t like his ideas, but I can imagine that we should meet halfway.

P	Meaning in Thai	Example
from now on	นับจากนี้	From now on I’m going to drive more carefully.
old fart		Bob isn’t an entertainer, he is an old fart.
to be pissed off	บ้าคลั่ง	Leave me alone, I’m pissed off!
to come to the point	เน้นประเด็น	Don’t talk for hours. Come to the point.

R	Meaning in Thai	Example
red tape	ขั้นตอนที่ใช้เวลามาก	Too much red tape takes everything longer.
S	Meaning in Thai	Example
to be in someone’s shoes	เอาใจเขามาใส่ใจเรา	I don’t want to be in Peter’s shoes.
to shut up	หุบปาก, เงียบ	Shut up or disappear before I get furious.
can’t stand	ทนไม่ไหว	I can’t stand the rain.
spy on me	สอดแนม, สายสืบ	Are you spying on me?
Start from scratch	เริ่มจากศูนย์	We did start from scratch before we are rich

T	Meaning in Thai	Example
Take it easy.	ทำตัวตามสบาย	Take it easy.
telly	TV	You’re a couch potato. All you can do is sit in front of the telly.
to be on time	ตรงต่อเวลา	Please be on time.
to take one’s time	ค่อยๆ ทำตามสบาย	Take your time.
to loose track	ไม่ได้ข่าวคราว	Do you know where Fred lives? – I’ve lost track of him.
to take turns	เป็นทีของ	My sister and Anne take turns babysitting.
W	Meaning in Thai	Example
Watch your step.	ระวังให้ดี	You’d better watch your step if you don’t want trouble with your boss.
no wonder	ไม่แปลกใจ	No wonder he is ill. He went out in shorts in winter.
in other words	ในทางตรงกันข้าม	In other words, you can’t answer the question.
to have words with sb.	ขอคุยเป็นการส่วนตัว	I had words with the headteacher of my son’s school
would rather	ชอบทำอย่างหนึ่งมากกว่า อีกอย่างหนึ่ง	Would you like to spend your holidays in the North? No – I’d rather fly to Mexico.
