e.g.

I prefer this shirt to the shirt you were wearing yesterday.

Would prefer to do / I’d prefer to do
Would prefer จะใช้ในกรณีต้องการเฉพาะเจาะจงมากกว่า Prefer

e.g. ”Would you prefer tea or coffee” “Coffee, please.”

“Shall we go by train?” “Well, I’d prefer to go by car. 
(จะไม่ใช้
I’d prefer going”)

I’d prefer to stay at home tonight rather than go to the cinema.

Would rather (do) = would prefer (to do).
หลัง
would rather จะใช้ infinitive without to.

ถ้าจะลองเปรียบเทียบดู

ถ้าจะพูดให้สวยๆ เป็นปฏิเสธ  - ”I‘d rather not (do something)”

e.g.
